Bali gets the full force of southern ocean swells direct from the antarctic with its south-west and south-east coasts being littered with surf spots.
Bali doesn't really have an off season with year round waves depending on the location that you place yourself around the island.

You can wear boardies all year round in Bali with water temps averaging 25-26 degrees. Booties are recommended when surfing the reef breaks.

Lombok

Nestled between Bali to the west and Sumbawa to the east sits Lombok. 
You will think you have been taken back to Bali and what it was like twenty years ago, laidback island villages and its beautiful unspoilt beaches. Lying directly east of Bali, take a short flight away from Denpasar or two and a half hours ferry ride from Benoa Harbour or Padang Bai.

Nusa Lembongan Island

The island of Nusa Lembongan is a haven for surfers and all those who enjoy water-sporting activities. Gili Islands: Is made up of 3 main islands located off the coast of Lombok.  Gili Meno, Gili Air and Gili Trawangan.

"As with other areas of Indonesia, the best surf season in this area occurs between the months of April and October but there are plenty of breaks to tempt you all year round. These breaks work well when the winds and swell change direction.

The best known surf break in Lombok is Desert Point, but there are plenty of other options for all standard of surfers with nine major surfing destinations located all around the Lombok coast. Depending on wind and swell directions."

You can surf in boardshorts, water temperature is 27 degrees centigrade on average. A top long sleeve remains highly recommended for sun protection. It’s best to also bring booties, the reefs are alive.
